Then Uranus had been discovered, and this planet - indubitably terrible and dangerous - became the symbol of all phenomena that are inapproachable by human understanding. As detailed by astrologist Denis Kutalyov, “During many centuries, while Saturn was the most distant of known planets, it was the only planet that was considered a byword of death and largest misfortunes. Whenever a new planet is discovered off the edge of the known solar system, the astrology associated with the planet is at first one of death and misfortune. There is a possibility of up to 10% methane ice as well, but would only be possible on the surface from an event like energetic impact. The most likely composition of the surface is 25% amorphous silicates, 35% complex organics, 15% amorphous carbon, and 25% water ice. The surface of Varuna is moderately red, with small traces of water ice having been detected on the surface. The rapid rotation of Varuna is rare given the large size of the object. The Kuiper Belt extends beyond Neptune and contains fellow dwarf planets Pluto, Haumea, and Makemake. The planet has an elongated oval shape due to a rapid rotation in a near-circular orbit in the Kuiper belt, and believed to be as large as the asteroid Ceres. Discovered on November 28th 2000, Varuna (officially labeled 20000 Varuna, a number associated with minor planets) is an asteroid contained in the Kuiper Belt–however, under the new definition of planet established by Nasa in 2006, Varuna is likely to one day be officially considered a dwarf planet.
